Let me begin by saying that games of battle and combat are usually not to my liking. However, when an acquaintance urged me to sample the realm of Octopolis in the game Barhalla, I accepted with reluctance. And to my delight, I was positively impressed!
One aspect I truly appreciate about Barhalla is the distinctive artistic style. The vivid, cartoonish visuals lend levity even in moments of defeat at the hands of other players. On the downside, I found the controls somewhat tricky to get the hang of initially, though with practice they became more instinctive.
During a particularly intense skirmish, I was stealthily stalking an opponent when by accident I tumbled off a precipice. As I plunged screaming to my doom, I could hear my character's wails all the way down. It was simultaneously hilarious and humiliating, but such unexpected happenings are what make gaming so enjoyable.
For all you newcomers out there, my recommendation is to focus first on mastering basic maneuvers. Take the time to learn efficient movement, jumping and attacking before delving into more complex gameplay mechanics. Trust me, it will save you much frustration down the line.
Barhalla offers a good variety of weapons and power-ups to maintain freshness and excitement in each match. I especially love experimenting with different combinations to see which suit my style of play best. The diverse maps also add a nice dash of variety to the experience.
In spite of my initial skepticism, I must admit that Barhalla has won me over. It provides fast-paced, action-packed fun for hours on end. I would most certainly recommend it to friends, particularly those seeking an engaging battle royale experience.
