The richly detailed environments pulled me in and had me eager to delve deep into this fantasy land to solve its hidden puzzles and learn its secrets.
What I admire most about Book of Huli is the immense care that went into crafting each character and location, imbuing the world with vibrant life and intrigue at every turn. That said, the repetitive foes one encountered grew tiring after some time, and variety in combat could have kept engagement higher. Rich lore alone does not sustain gameplay.
During a particularly tough boss battle, things took an unexpected turn when my character botched a spell casting and shrank down to Lilliputian size instead! It was hilarious watching my pint-sized player take on Goliath, and the laughter helped lighten the tension of the fight. Unexpected humor amid challenge added levity.
I advise new adventurers to spend time exploring every crevice and cranny, as hidden quests and prizes lie around every nook. Don't shy from experimenting with different tactics too, as finding the playstyle that clicks will help smooth the path. Not all roads are straightforward in Huli.
The wide assortment of spells and abilities at the player's fingertips was one of my favorite elements, as each gave a distinctive sense of prowess. Too, I appreciated the scrupulous attention to environmental atmospheres, be they verdant woodlands or eerie catacombs. Such details brought Huli to life.
